About Our Business

Christopher James Design wants its clients know the value of investing in custom cabinetry.  It is
being able to look at a piece after a year and finding something new; a line, a construction
technique; we want our clients to relate and appreciate our furniture for a lifetime


Jim Lengel started Christopher James in 2003 after working in corporate marketing.  In a previous
life Jim had trained as a chef and while in college worked as a finish carpenter maker.    After the
birth of his son (Christopher James Kenji Lengel) Jim decided to finally fulfill his dream of opening
his own business.  Why not utilize both of your passions; cooking and woodworking.  Christopher
James Design was born.

We are a relatively small studio with two craftsmen working together in a low key, highly creative
environment.  Along with Jim, who oversees the design of the projects, Christopher James Design
calls upon its craftsmen to build your piece.  

Niel Rasmussen  comes to CJD with over ten years experience.  He graduated from the
Philadelphia Design Institute and recently moved back to the United States after spending five
years building furniture in England.
